FAMOUS CHICKENS IN POP CULTURE

Chickens are a part of our lives - and yours too I imagine - but they also frequently feature in pop-culture! This blog will take a look at times where Chickens have played a role in film and literature (move over Brad Pitt, there are some new stars about!).

1. Chicken Run - Obviously this stop motion animated (produced by Pathé, Aardman Animations, and DreamWorks Animation) movie needs to take top spot as the cast is largely (albeit not real) chickens! This movie was released in 2000 and it still is widely known as being a great film. The star of this film has to be Ginger (the Rhode Island Red protagonist).

2. Cornelius Rooster - Of course, the rooster that is Kellogg's mascot! This rooster is actually a Welsummer and made his debut on the packaging in 1957! The use of the rooster represents starting the morning bright and early and in the right way!

3. Foghorn Leghorn - The iconic rooster who features in the Looney Tunes, Merrie Melodies, Walky-Talky Hawky and Warner Bros films. Foghorn is based directly on Senator Claghorn. This roosters breed is - to no surprise - a Leghorn! Check out our instagram posts on Leghorns for a bit more information on this breed!

4. Lady Kluck - Lady Kluck, a white hen, from Disney's animated Robin Hood (1973) is Maid Marian's Scottish and energetic lady in waiting. It is ironic because Maid Marian is actually depicted as a fox! Lady Kluck is not the only chicken in Robin Hood as there is also the musical rooster: Alan-a-dale!

5. Hei Hei (also written as Heihei) - This accident-prone bantam rooster is from the animated film Moana (2016). He is accidentally embarks on Moana's journey when he unintentionally gets on her canoe. Moana's co-directer Ron Clements believes that Heihei 'might be the stupidest character in the history of Disney Animation'!
